| | | Nancy R. Whitehill, age 68, of Shenandoah, Iowa passed away Thursday, August 6, 2009 at the Shenandoah Memorial Hospital after injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Nancy Rae Whitehill was born October 30, 1940 in Pisgah, Iowa the daughter of George and Naomi (McCue) Keele. The family moved to Shenandoah where she graduated high school in 1957. Nancy worked for the Jack Burton Ford Dealership before her marriage to James Whitehill on February 7, 1959 in Shenandoah, Iowa. They lived on a farm where they raised their children until moving into Shenandoah in 1971. In 1975, Jim and Nancy moved to Nebraska City where they both worked for the Farm and Home Retail Store. In 1981, they moved back to Shenandoah where Jim operated the Orscheln Store. In 1982, Nancy started managing the Godfather’s Pizza until 1988 when she went to work for the Shenandoah Police Department as a dispatcher. In 1991, she started working for Central Surveys. Jim and Nancy also taught country dance lessons from 1983 until 2005.
Nancy loved to cook, always making new recipes for her family to taste test. She enjoyed feeding birds, playing the penny slots, playing pool, traveling, especially trips to Colorado, loved raising houseplants, and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She was loved by all who knew her and was patient, loving, and described as unforgettable.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents and brothers-in-law: Kenneth and Boyd Whitehill. Survivors include her husband: James Whitehill of Shenandoah; children: Larry Whitehill and companion Pat Glassinger of Farragut, Iowa; Rhonda Whitehill of Shenandoah; Randy Whitehill and wife Sherry of Thornton, Colorado; and Lance Whitehill of Omaha, Nebraska; four grandchildren: Corey Whitehill and Paydon Whitehill of Shenandoah; and James Whitehill and Katie Whitehill of Thornton, Colorado; great granddaughter: Alexis Jaiden Whitehill; brother: Lyle Keele and wife Janet of Littleton, Colorado; brothers and sisters-in-law: Darrell Whitehill of Northboro, Iowa; Don Whitehill and wife Elaine of Elmo, Missouri; Duane Whitehill and wife Gweneth of Shenandoah; Harold Dinsmore and wife Eloise of Farragut; LeRoy Whitehill and wife Lorene of Shenandoah; Barbara Taylor and husband Junior of Shenandoah; Darlene Harbin of Shenandoah; Robert Whitehill and wife Ina Rhea of Shenandoah; Farris Maas of Shenandoah; and Gwendolyn Whitehill of Shenandoah; many nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held 10 AM Monday, August 10, 2009 at the Shenandoah United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-8 PM Sunday, August 9, 2009 at the Kirsch Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
Services are entrusted to the Kirsch Funeral Chapel of Shenandoah.
