MONTGOMERY -- Doris Childress Smith, 75, passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2008, surrounded by her loving family.
MEMORIAL SERVICE to be held at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, March 16, 2008, at Bells of Montgomery in Montgomery.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Friends of the West Branch Library Memorial fund. The address is 202 Bessie Price Owen Dr., Montgomery, Texas, 77356.
Doris was born on June 29, 1932 in Anson. She was the third of four daughters born to the late Jack Hall Childress and the late Marjorie Mae Childress. Doris attended schools in California and Odessa. Before moving to Montgomery, Doris and her husband, Tommy, lived life to its fullest in Corpus Christi and Houston. Her love and devotion to her husband, children and grandchildren was evident in every aspect of her life. Doris and Tommy enjoyed attending sporting events, recitals, graduations and weddings for their grandchildren. They would create contests, variety shows, mini boat races and indoor camp-outs for the grandchildren. On several occasions Doris, Tommy, her three sons and their families would travel to the sites of the Olympic Games. Her many interests included, reading, writing, genealogy, needlework, quilting, antiquing, decorating, cooking, gardening, art and music. She taught herself to play the piano, wrote a cookbook in remembrance of her mother and compiled a family genealogy which was submitted to the Clayton Library of Houston. Doris also retired from Aetna Insurance.
SURVIVORS: Lowell Thomas (Tommy) Smith, a loving and devoted husband of 35 years; three sons and their wives, Bill and Kathy Scott of Lakeway, Bob and Doris Scott of Spring, Jack and Brenda Scott of Tolar; three stepchildren, Becky Rodriguez and husband Gene of Mission Diego, California, Debra Hensler of Flower Mound, Rodney Smith and wife Kelley of Frisco; 15 grandchildren,Eric, Amy, Adam, Elaine, Ryan, Brian, Jenny, Kyle, Kendra, Andrew, Emily, Amanda, Savanah, Jesica, Beckham and 9 great grandchildren, Katie, Cody, Lauren, Christopher Dominic, Brady, Berkeley, Boady, and Briar; her three sisters, Jackie Beth Bell, Nancy Jane Widner, Anita Elms and her husband Bill, all of Odessa; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
