Kathy was born in Aberdeen, South Dakota on March 16, 1952, a daughter of Roy and Bonnie Erickson. Educated in Aberdeen, Kathy was a 1970 graduate of Roncalli High School and attended Northern State University from 1970 to 1972. In addition to her formal education, Kathy enjoyed learning new things and regularly participated in educational seminars and leadership training programs.
Married to Kenneth Alley on October 13, 1972, they shared 30 wonderful years together raising their children, Jessica and Jeremy. While the children were young and attending school, Kathy stayed at home to devote her full attention to raising her family. She provided Jessica and Jeremy with constant love, support, and guidance as they grew from infants to young adults. Kathy's life was her family as evidenced by the love they shared for each other.
Kathy was a warm, personable, high energy, and very positive individual. She always had a smile on her face, and her friendly and generous nature brightened the lives of those around her. Everything Kathy did demonstrated her desire to live life to the fullest. She was a selfless person, consistently putting the needs of her family, friends, and community first.
For the past ten years, Kathy was an independent sales consultant for The Pampered Chef. In this role, she successfully managed all aspects of her own direct sales business. Demonstrating kitchen products was a natural line of work for Kathy due to her lifelong love of baking and cooking for her family and friends.
In 1996, Kathy was elected to serve a six-year term as a Dawson County Commissioner. Kathy was the type of public servant who cared deeply about the well being of all citizens in Dawson County. She took pride in treating all citizens fairly. As a Commissioner, Kathy was actively engaged in numerous initiatives to address economic development and quality of life issues in Dawson County. She was a respected civic leader and served her community on several levels including service as a member of the Mental Health Board, Dawson County Zoning Board, and as a member of the Board of Directors of the Grandview Retirement Home and Job Service Employees Committee. Kathy played an instrumental and vital role in securing funding through a Community Development Block Grant for a new senior citizens center in Glendive. A lifelong community volunteer, Kathy gave tirelessly of her time and energy to organize or assist with numerous community, school, and church fund-raising activities and events.
She was preceded in death by her father, Roy Erickson, on January 1, 1977, and by her stepfather, Donald Breuer, on November 6, 1991.
Kathy is survived by her husband, Ken, daughter, Jessica, and son, Jeremy, all of Glendive; her mother, Bonnie Breuer, of Huron, South Dakota; sister, Shirley Erickson, of Bucks Harbor, Maine; brother, Paul Erickson, sister-in-law, Pam, niece, Ashlee and nephew, Dakota, all of Las Vegas, Nevada.
