Agnes D. Anderson, age 88, of Glendive, passed away on Monday, March 15, 2004 at the Glendive Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, March 20, 2004 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Glendive. Interment will be in the Dawson County Cemetery in Glendive. Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home of Glendive is entrusted with arrangements.
Agnes was born the youngest of five children on October 10, 1915, at Zeona, South Dakota in Perkins County. Her parents Ludvig and Inga (Anderson) Larson were immigrants and homesteaders. She married F. Raymond Anderson at Immanuel Lutheran Church at Zeona on August 15, 1945. All of her public school education was in rural Perkins County schools. She graduated from high school in Hettinger North Dakota and later earned an associate arts degree from Augustana College, Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She also attended the University of South Dakota.
Following her years at Augustana, she taught rural schools in Perkins County, South Dakota; served for a time as County Superintendent of Schools. Later she worked for eight years as a teachers' aide at Dawson County High School.
Her favorite role was as wife, mother and grandmother. Agnes was baptized and confirmed into the Christian faith in the Norwegian Lutheran Church. She was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church [ELCA] for fifty years, holding offices on the church council and womenıs group. She taught Sunday School and helped to organize the Altar Guild and was its first secretary. When she was homebound she never missed a church service on the radio. She was also a longtime member of SO NU Homemakers Club.
She is survived by her husband Ray; daughter, Avis of Glendive; son, Greg and wife Bernie of Boulder City, Nevada; grandsons, Cole and wife Marguerite of Cheyenne Wyoming; Luke of Butte, Montana; granddaughter, Samantha of Boulder City, Nevada; one great granddaughter Abigail; one sister, Ida Jerde of Spearfish SD; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Benna and Edna, and one brother, Leslie.
Home and family, her church, reading, a love of nature and traveling were her life. She was a woman of basic beliefs and simple tastes, with a strong personal faith. She was a cancer survivor who lived many years with leukemia. In her last years, she and Ray have made their home with their daughter.
