Mikey (Appel) Quenzer, age 62, of Thermopolis WY, formerly of Glendive, passed away at her daughter’s home in Fargo ND on Saturday September 4, 2004 after an arduous battle against Metastatic Breast Cancer. She went peacefully to be with her Lord while surrounded by her loved ones.
A Vigil service will be held at 7:00 P.M., Friday, September 10, 2004 in the Chapel of the Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home in Glendive. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, September 11, 2004 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glendive with Father Joseph Ponessa officiating. Rite of Committal will be in the Prairie County Cemetery in Terry, Montana. Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home of Glendive is entrusted with arrangements.
Mikey was born LaRae Michael McGraw in Terry MT on June 12, 1942, the daughter of Delmar & Lucille (Hauk) McGraw. She lived in Terry and Miles City before settling in Glendive in 1955. She graduated from Dawson County High School with the class of 1961. She married Bob Appel in 1960 and they had 2 children, Todd & Terri. She drove School Bus for many years in the 70's & 80's - a job she absolutely loved, and her kids loved her as well. She was an active member of the local Jayceens for many years and enjoyed driving in the annual Demolition Derby (and winning!). She loved hunting with her family & was a great shot. Mikey was “mom” to all her children’s friends, and her home & supper table were always open to all.
She married Floyd Quenzer on April 1st 1984 & moved to Williston ND where she attended and graduated from College. In 1990 Mikey & Floyd moved to Thermopolis WY. She worked for 11 years as a Case Manager for Bighorn Enterprises, Inc. She survived one fight with Breast Cancer while there and continued to work until the returning Breast Cancer disabled her. Mikey was cherished by all her co-workers, and especially by all the clients whom she loved and cared for very much. Anyone that knew Mikey loved her as she always showered people with kindness and had time for everyone. Her beautiful smile greeted all, even through the pain she endured.
Mikey loved driving the Model T, fishing with Floyd, boating & weekend campouts with her children and grandchildren, and taking pictures - but she was best known as a garage sale addict. Her life was her children and grandchildren. She was always traveling to attend important events in their lives and forever making plans to spend time with them. She adored them, and they adored her - she was the best mom & grandma anyone would ever hope to have.
Survivors include her husband Floyd Quenzer of Thermopolis; her son, Myron Todd Appel and his wife Rhonda of Glendive; her daughter, Terri Ulrich and her husband Ryan of Fargo ND; two stepsons, Troy Quenzer and his wife Des of Spearfish SD, and Chad Quenzer of Salt Lake City; her mom, Lucille McGraw of Glendive; two sisters, Patsy Nelson of Glendive, and Karen Irigoin of Reno NV; and her precious grandchildren; Garrett & Tasia; Damen, Erik & Dalton; Shannon & TerrieAnn; her numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
She is preceded in death by her brother Miles “Tweeter”, and her dad, Delmar McGraw.
Mikey is at peace with the Angels, she is our Angel now.
Memorials may be sent to Todd or Terri and will be forwarded to Breast Cancer Research. Please add a note with your wishes.
