| | | Arlene C.M. Babcock, age 91, of Glendive, Montana, died Thursday, September 30, 2004 at the Glendive Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, October 5, 2004 at Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor Paul Everett and Pastor Avis Anderson officiating. Interment will follow at Dawson Memorial Cemetery in Glendive. Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home of Glendive is entrusted with arrangements.
Arlene was born on January 4, 1913 at Nome, North Dakota, the daughter of Genhard Johanne and Josephine Emelia (Nygaard) Thomason. She was educated in Lisbon, North Dakota graduating with the class of 1931. Arlene then went on to Valley City State Teachers College in Valley City, North Dakota in 1932, 1955 and graduated in 1960 with a degree in education. She taught city school in Rudyard, Montana, country school in Ransom County, North Dakota and Washington Middle School in Glendive, Montana.
Arlene was married to Charles Babcock on September 1, 1936 in Lisbon, North Dakota.
Arlene was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Glendive and the Zion Lutheran Ladies Aid. She made banners and bulletin boards for her church for over 20 years. Arlene was a retired member of the National, Montana and Glendive Teacher's Associations. She loved being around her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed needle point, playing piano and organ, Norwegian cooking, cheering for her favorite football team the Minnesota Vikings and was a staunch member of the local Republican Party.
Arlene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charlie; son-in-law, Harvey Haugen and brother, Gordon Thomason.
Arlene is survived by one daughter, Charlene Haugen of Glendive, Montana; one son, Ken Babcock and his wife Carolyn of Fairview, Montana and one sister-in-law, Florence Thomason of Fresno, California; six grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.
