| | | Gladys Marie Baker, age 91, of Mandan, North Dakota, formerly of Glendive, Montana, passed away on Sunday, October 17, 2004 at Rejoice Eldercare Center in Mandan, North Dakota.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, October 22, 2004 at the Chapel of the Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home in Glendive. Interment will be in the Dawson Memorial Cemetery in Glendive. Silvernale-Silha Funeral home of Glendive is entrusted with arrangements.
Gladys was born on September 27, 1913, the third child of ten, to Marcus and Borghild Braaten in a two room log home, on Sunnyside road, south of Wolf Point, Montana. On October 15, 1932 she married Charles LeRoy Baker in Poplar, Montana. In 1942, they bought a homestead south of Wolf Point, where they raised their two daughters, Marie and Eileen. Gladys loved farm life. She sold eggs and chickens in town. She was well known for her homemade ice cream, fried chicken, cinnamon twists and custard pie. In 1984, Gladys and Roy retired to Glendive, but continued to spend summers at the farm for several years. After Roy's death she spent her time traveling and visiting family while spending summers with Marie and the winters with Eileen.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Carlton (Marie) Oltman of Ottertail Lake area, Minnesota and Eileen Kessel of Mandan, North Dakota; eight grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, 15 great great grandchildren; three sisters and one brother.
Gladys will be remembered for her devotion to her family and her great faith.
