| | | Catherine C. Allen, age 86, of Beach, North Dakota, died at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Dickinson, North Dakota, on Wednesday, May 25, 2005.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, May 28, 2005 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Beach with Rev. Fr. David Richter officiating. Rite of Committal will follow services at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Sentinel Butte, North Dakota. Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home of Beach is entrusted with arrangements.
Catherine was born April 4, 1919 at the family farm near Sentinel Butte, North Dakota, the daughter of Thomas and Victoria (Billig) Wirtzfeld.
Catherine was educated in rural Sentinel Butte schools. At an early age she moved to Dickinson, North Dakota to work and later as a young woman she moved to Portland, Oregon to help her sister.
While in Portland she attended a legal business college and became a legal secretary. She worked in the Portland area for many years as a legal secretary.
In 1948, Catherine returned to the Sentinel Butte area. She was married to Charles N. Allen at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Sentinel Butte. Following their marriage, they lived on a farm north of Sentinel Butte in the Westerheim Community.
Catherine was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, the Friendly Neighbors Homemakers Club and worked as a custodian at Lincoln Elementary School for many years. Catherine was a prolific reader and enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, crocheting, gardening, canning and loved to play games with her grandchildren. She loved animals and especially enjoyed milking cows. Catherine always enjoyed making great birthday cakes for her grandchildren. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Catherine was preceded in death by her husband, Charles: parents; three sisters, Susan Wirtzfeld, Margaret Van and Frances Wirtzfeld; two brothers, William and Nicholas Wirtzfeld and one grandson,Tyrell Allen and two sons-in-law, Rodney Van Horn and John Carlson.
Catherine is survived by one son, Albert Allen and his wife Esther of Sidney, Montana; three daughters, Victoria Van Horn of Sentinel Butte, North Dakota, Susan Carlson of Litchfield, Minnesota and Margaret Hudson and her husband Douglas of Casper, Wyoming; one brother, Peter Wirtzfeld and his wife Mary of Beach, North Dakota; one sister Christine Fugere of Portland, Oregon and one sister-in-law, Carmella Wirtzfeld of Beach, North Dakota.
