| | | Saturday morning, October 14, 2006, Michael James Atwell went to meet the Lord who first carried the cross of pain for all of us.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, October 17, 2006 from 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. and 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home A Vigil service will be held at 7:00 P.M., Tuesday, October 17, 2006 in the Chapel of the Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home in Glendive. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 A.M., Wednesday October 18, 2006 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glendive, Montana with Father Basil Atwell OSB celebrating the liturgy, and Father Joseph Ponessa, concelebrating. Rite of Committal will be in the Dawson County Cemetery in Glendive. Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home of Glendive is entrusted with arrangements.
Michael was born on January 4, 1950, the son of John W. and L. Genevieve (Russell) Atwell, of Glendive. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic School and graduated from Dawson County High School in 1969.
Mike grew up with many health problems, including diabetes and strokes. With the support of his family, Mike endured many health complications, but rarely, if ever, complained about his plight in life.
Generous to a fault, Mike would give to anyone he perceived to be in need. Mike worked 20 years for Dawson County at Sacred Heart Cemetery, before his health forced him to retire.
A quiet man, Mike listened attentively to family conversations and chimed in with a hearty laugh. Indeed Mike liked to laugh, and his ready smile was evidence to all who knew Mike, that his smile was a sign of a life-long valiant effort to hide his pain and suffering. He will be missed terribly by all his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1994 and an infant brother, Michael John.
Michael is survived by his mother Genevieve of Glendive, five siblings, Patrick (Patricia) Atwell, Edwina (Leon) Boyles, Russell Atwell, and Melody (John) Schreiber, all of Glendive, and Fr. Basil J. Atwell, OSB, monk of Assumption Abbey, Richardton, North Dakota, presently pastor at St. Mary's in New England, North Dakota and St. Elizabeth's in Lefor, North Dakota. Mike's nieces and nephews include Lisa (Jason) Bunn, Erin Atwell, Lee (Kayla) and Eric (Kara) Boyles, John Russell, Justin and Derek Atwell, and Jennifer (Christopher) Vojacek, Christopher, Brittany and Alex Schreiber.
Michael offered up his daily sufferings for his family, and for peace in the world. May his soul and all the souls of our Lord's Faithful Departed, through the mercy of God, rest in Peace. AMEN.
