Greg was born January 23, 1910, on the family farm near Wibaux, Montana. He was the third of eight children born to Matthias and Mary (Gass) Decker. He was delivered by his grandma Gass, who was the area midwife.
In the spring of 1916, the family moved to the family farm north of Sentinel Butte, North Dakota. Greg attended Camel Hump School through the eight grade. He worked for neighboring farmers, among them was Joe Kahl, Ray Zinsli, Page Myers, Pat Murphy and Charles Nistler.
In January of 1936, Greg and Ben Maus went to work in Roosevelt Park in Medora with the Civilian Conservation Corp. In 1937, Greg spent some time working on a dude ranch in Seely Lake, Montana and later rode the freights to California where he worked on a sheep ranch. He returned to north Dakota in 1940 and spent the remainder of his life there.
Greg married Rosena Maus on October 7, 1941, at St. Maryís Catholic Church in Golva. Greg and Rosena farmed and ranched the Decker family farm until 1975 when they retired to Sentinel Butte. The couple were married sixty years when Rosena preceded him in death on April 2, 2002. Greg lived at the Golden Valley Manor for the past nine months.
Greg will always be remembered for his love for the Lord, his family and the simple things in life. He will also be remembered for his honesty, integrity and sense of humor. One of the things he enjoyed most was time spent with his family. Greg loved to reminisce, play cards and shoot pool. He had a host of friends, old and new, who will miss him greatly.
Greg was preceded in death by his wife Rosena; their son Gerald who was killed in Vietnam; his parents, Matthias and Mary; four brothers, Bill, Leo, Al and Charles; three sisters, Mathilda, Betty and Margaret; one son-in-law, Rick Kasalek.
Greg is survived by six children; a daughter, Yvonne Kasalek; daughter, Sharon Lardy and her husband Maurice; son, Tom Decker and his wife Anita Skedsvold Decker; daughter, Pat Hermanson and her husband Don, all of Bismarck, North Dakota; daughter, Rose Krukenberg and her husband Jack of Minot, North Dakota; son, Ron Decker and his wife Carolyn Becker Decker of Corvallis, Oregon; nineteen grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren.
