| | | Henry P. "Hank" Reiter, age 89, of Wibaux, Montana, formerly of Beach, North Dakota, passed away on Monday, September 28, 2009, at the Wibaux County Nursing Home.
Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, October 2, 2009, at the United Community Church in Beach with Pastor Warren Maxted officiating. Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home of Beach is entrusted with the arrangements.
Hank was born February 29, 1920, in Laurel, Montana, the fifth of six children, to Henry and Susanne (Frank) Reiter. He began school in Laurel knowing only German, and he graduated from Laurel High School in 1938. He served honorably during World War II with the United States Army Air Corps in Burma and India. He married Helen Dickinson of Beach, North Dakota, on January 27, 1946. They had three children.
Hank managed Dickinson's Department Store in Beach until his retirement in 1981. He was a member of the American Legion, Masons, Shriners and Elks. He also served on the Beach Volunteer Fire Department for many years and was a charter member of the XGI Drill Team.
Two of his great loves were sports and athletics. He played town baseball for Beach during his younger days, and he was proud of his three holes-in-one in golf and an early 300 in bowling.
Hank loved children, especially his grandkids, and taught most of them to drive at a very early age, while sitting on his lap steering the "little pick-up."
Hank was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Alec and Herman; his sisters, Lydia Frank, Emma Klein, and Martha Kautz; his son-in-law, Everett Sykora; and his in-laws, Ted and Mary Dickinson.
Hank is survived by his wife Helen of Beach, North Dakota; his children: Mary and James Lawin of Dickinson, North Dakota, Janet Sykora of St. Cloud, Minnesota, Ted and Marsha (Maus) Reiter of Hatton, North Dakota; his grandchildren: Erika Snow, Anne Hartwig, Chad Sykora, Todd Sykora, Teddi Olaughlin, Elizabeth, Scott and Abby Reiter; and his great-grandchildren: Daisy Snow, Riley, Blake and Grace Hartwig, Jake and Henry Sykora, and Caelum Olaughlin.
