GLENDIVE, MONTANA: Lydia Entzel, age 92, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, October 8, 2009 at the Glendive Medical Center. Visitation will be held from 3:00 P.M. - 5:00 P.M.. And 6:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. on Sunday, October 11, 2009 at the Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home in Glendive. The casket will be closed at the church. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, October 12, 2009 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Glendive with Pastor James Hageman officiating. Interment will be in Dawson Memorial Cemetery in Glendive. Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home of Glendive is entrusted with the arrangements.
Lydia was born on January 4, 1917 in Eureka, South Dakota, the daughter of Jacob and Katherina (Leicht) Gutjahr. She moved to Marsh, Montana at the age of 5 with her mother and step-father, Christ Roesler. She attended the Garvin School there until February 14, 1931 when the family moved to a home located 11 miles North of Fallon, Montana where Lydia finished the 8th Grade at the Amo School.
Lydia married Eugene Entzel on June 23, 1946 at the Trinity Lutheran Church (east of Fallon). They farmed and raised a family on a farm 13 miles SW of Glendive, growing sugar beets for 31 years and running a dairy herd for 18 years. Eugene passed away from a heart attack on September 1, 1977. Lydia sold the farm and moved to West Glendive where she resided until the time of her death.
Lydia served in many capacities throughout her life: 4-H Leader, Farmer's Union Secretary, School District 10 Clerk, church organist, member of Ladies Aide, American Legion, VFW, Hill & Dale Homemakers Club, Hospital Auxiliary & X-ray duty as well as popcorn volunteer at the Glendive Medical Center Extended Care. She enjoyed baby-sitting, watching basketball games, taking tours and giving away her many crocheted items. She was known for her great home-made Lemon Meringue pies, egg noodles and Kuchen.
Lydia was preceded in death by her parents, step-father, two sisters, Alma Miller and Martha Huft; four brothers, Ruben, Edwin, Christ and Jake Roesler.
Lydia is survived by three daughters, Arlene Lorenzen and her husband Bob of Laurel, Montana, Sheila Butler and her husband Les of Mt. Vernon, Washington, Susan Brown and her husband Roger of Prescott Valley, Arizona; one son, Dale Entzel and his wife Renae of Glendive; three sisters, Freda Haidle, Anna Baisch and her husband Kenneth and Marie Miller all of Glendive; two brothers, Emil Roesler and his wife LaDonna of Glendive and Erwin Roesler and his wife Liz of Eureka, South Dakota; four grandchildren, Kory (Kellie) and Casey Butler and Levi and Tanner Brown; three step grandchildren, Max, Robert and Joe Lorenzen; 5 step great grandchildren; special friends, Pat and Wayne Haas of Glendive and numerous nieces and nephews.
