Doug was born in Glendive on May 27, 1934, the son of Rene and Minnie (Reidlinger) Barone. Doug was raised on the family farm near Burns Creek and attended school in Savage, Montana. He proudly graduated from Savage High School third in his class! At a young age Doug obtained his pilot's license. He liked to fly and he shared his love for flying by giving others plane rides.
Doug married Patsy Mastvelten on January 23, 1952 in Plentywood, Montana. Following their marriage, they made their home in the Savage area before Doug started working in the oilfields of Oklahoma. For several years Doug and Pat lived in Oklahoma, Texas and Colorado following Doug's employment.
In the late 1950's, Doug and Pat moved to Baker, Montana where Doug started his own oilfield maintenance business (D&D Preventative Maintenance) that he operated until the early 1980's when he sold the business and they moved to Glendive. Doug farmed full time and served as a Dawson County Commissioner while living in Glendive. In 2000 Doug and Pat built a new home on the family
farm and moved to the country.
Doug enjoyed talking about the old days in the oil field and he loved farming. He was always very active and was known for his strong work ethic. Doug was most happy when he was working and staying busy at the farm. Doug and Pat enjoyed traveling and going on cruises. After Doug retired he never turned down an opportunity to fish on the Yellowstone River.
Doug was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-eight years. Pat passed away on Christmas Day in 2010. Doug was also preceded in death by his parents; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ruth and Elmer Mastvelten.
Survivors include his son, Doug Barone Jr. (Rita) of Casper, Wyoming; a daughter, Janet (Wes) Froehlich of Hillsboro, North Dakota; a son, Tim Barone (Dauphine) of Seattle, Washington; a daughter, Teresa (Bill) Wade of Glendive; and a daughter, Carla (Bruce) Sapp of Azle, Texas; eleven grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren; two brothers, Tony (Elaine) Barone of Savage, Montana and Ron (Vernette) Barone of Sidney, Montana and one sister, Carol (Ray) Novakovich of Glendive.
