Glendive, Montana: Gertrude “Gertie” Fehr Entzel, age 91, was taken home on Monday, June 18, 2012 at the Glendive Medical Center Extended Care in Glendive. Now released from her paralyzed body she “walks” in the true freedom of eternal peace. Visitation will be from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Friday, June 22, 2012 at the Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home in Glendive and 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 23, 2012 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Glendive. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 23, 2012 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Glendive with Pastor James Hageman officiating. Interment will be held in Dawson Memorial Cemetery in Glendive. Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home of Glendive has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Gertie was the first born to Carl and Marie (Wiege) Sailer on January 20, 1921 in Stark County, North Dakota. Soon to follow were four brothers and one sister.
In 1946, Gertie married Reinholt Fehr in Hebron, North Dakota where they remained for a few years, working and creating their family with two sons, Gary and Lanny. The family’s move to Glendive proved to be long term. Gertie took in ironing to help support the family.
Gertie endured the loss of Reiny in 1986. She stayed busy but being alone wasn’t for her so in 1990 she married Norman Entzel in Glendive. Fifteen years later she was once again widowed.
Gertie enjoyed crossword puzzles and knitting. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary.
Meals at “Ma’s” house forced you to unbutton your top button and collapse on the nearest couch, bloated and happy on a belly full of strudla or kase knepfla with kuegen for dessert. Thanks Ma for a life well lived. The love you gave lives on in each of us.
Gertie was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Marie Sailer; husbands, Reinholt Fehr and Norman Entzel; and three brothers, Harry, Lawrence and Ray Sailer.
Surviving this wonderful woman are her sons, Gary (Juanita) Fehr of Billings, Montana and their children, Chad, Shane and Brianna; and Lanny (Bonnie) Fehr of Glendive and their children, Richie, Brandie and Laci. She was most proud of being great-grandmother to eight beautiful great-grandchildren. Her sister, Mildred (Clarence) Roth; brother, Arnie (Viola) Sailer both of Bismarck, North Dakota and numerous nieces and nephews survives her as well.
Memorials may be made to Glendive Medical Center Hospice Program in Gertie’s name.
Remembrances and condolences may be shared with the family at: www.silvernale-silhafuneralhome.com.
