|Sun City, Arizona: Wendell Dale Scherting, age 80, formerly of Glendive, Montana, passed away on Saturday, June 23, 2012 at his home in Sun City after a brief battle with cancer. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, July 23, 2012 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glendive with Father Joseph Ponessa officiating. Rite of Committal with military honors will be in the Dawson County Cemetery in Glendive. Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home of Glendive has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Dale was born on April 29, 1932 in Glendive, to Wendell and Kathryn (Streitmatter) Scherting. He was raised and educated in Glendive graduating from Dawson County High School with the class of 1950. After graduation Dale worked for the railroad, and then spent two years in the United States Marine Corp. Following his honorable discharge from the military service in 1954, Dale returned to the railroad to work as an electrician. When oil activity started up, however, he went to work for Schlumberger until they moved their offices to North Dakota, at which time he went to work for the United States Post Office. Later Dale worked for First Security Bank until 1988 when he and Kay moved to Arizona where they managed a retirement community. Following that Dale owned and operated A-1 Auto and Air with his son, Gregg.
Dale married Kay Lynn Olson on May 5, 1962, and to this union three sons were born, Gari, Gregg and Cory. Dale enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. A recent joy was his trip to Glendive in 2011 to meet his new great-grandson, Treysen Gene Scherting. His grandson Damen drove him around Glendive as Dale reminisced of growing up in Glendive and the pride of raising his children in the same community.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wendell and Kathryn Scherting; one sister, Lorraine and one brother Donald.
Dale is survived by Kay Lynn of Sun City; son, Gari and his wife Kerry and their children, JJ, Skylar and Lake all of Goodyear, Arizona; son, Gregg of Mesa, Arizona and his children, Chelsea of Billings, Montana and Damen (Breon) and their son, Treysen all of Glendive; son, Cory of Waddell, Arizona; sister, Dorothy Rimmer and her husband Don of Billings; sister-in-law, Pat Scherting of Wenatchee, Washington and numerous nieces and nephews.
