|Glendive, Montana: Ivan Joe Dyekman (Dyek), age 77, passed away on Thursday, July 5, 2012 after a short but courageous battle with cancer. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until 5:00 P.M. and 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at the Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home in Glendive. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Glendive with Reverend Roy Perry officiating. Interment will be held in the Dawson County Cemetery in Glendive. Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home of Glendive has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Dyek was born on September 1, 1934 in Livingston, Montana, the son of Col. Ivan and Annabelle (Hutchinson) Dyekman. He was raised and educated all around the world as his father was a Colonel for the United States Army. Through his travels he lived in many places, Japan being his favorite. Following his graduation from high school, he moved to Fort Collins, Colorado where he attended Colorado State University. He graduated with the class of 1960 as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. After graduation he practiced veterinary medicine for a year in Belgrade, Montana before moving to Spokane, Washington as a meat inspector. In 1961 he moved to Glendive, Montana where he became partners with Dr. Eugene Aby at the Glendive Veterinary Clinic. In the early 1990s Dr. Aby retired and Dyek continued practicing till the time of his death.
Dyek met and married Judith Cowan on June 17, 1961 in Bozeman, Montana. They were married for 17 years and had 4 children together. He later met and married his best friend JoAnn Keever on September 6, 1980 in Glendive.
Dyek enjoyed golf, whether it was playing the game or just watching it on the television. He also enjoyed bowling. He was a member of the Montana Veterinary Medical Association. He was very passionate about his work, and enjoyed working with large animals. Most of all he enjoyed the people he met and the friendships he made working with the local farmers and ranchers.
Dyek was preceded in death by his parents, Ivan and Annabelle Dyekman.
Survivors include his wife of 32 years, JoAnn Dyekman of Glendive; children, Col. Gregory (Gina) Dyekman of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, Rhonda (Todd) Appel of Glendive, Jeffrey (Melissa) Dyekman of Billings, and Jarrod Dyekman of Glendive; step-children, Cindy (Roy) Degenstein of Watford City, North Dakota, Chris (Doug) Magelky of Dickinson, North Dakota and Doug Keever of Glendive; eleven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, one sister Mary (Brad) Lescher of Amelia Island, Florida and numerous nieces and nephews.
