| | | T. Asa Bolinger, 76, of rural Columbia City, died at 5:18 p.m. Saturday, May 26, 2012 at Glenbrook Rehab Center, Fort Wayne where he had been a resident since January.
He was born March 21, 1936 in Huntington, Indiana a son of Wallace H. and Leola J. (Rupley) Bolinger. His formative years were spent in Luther. He graduated from Bippus High School in 1954.
On December 1, 1957 he was united in marriage to Mary C. Riley. They made their home in Huntington County until 1959 when they moved to Liberty Mills. In 1965 they moved to a farm south of South Whitley until 1982 when they moved to their present home north of Columbia City.
A farmer, he also worked for Johnson Bros. Sign Co., Whitley Feeds, Patriot Seed, McNess Seed, Tractor Supply Company and retired from Essex Wire in 2002.
He attended St. Matthews United Methodist Church and was a Southern Showmen 4-H Club Leader for many years.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Mary; four children, Tammy (Doug) Wise of Warsaw, Dawn Decker of Columbia City, Theron (Robin) Bolinger of Bluffton and Emily (Tom) Eickholtz of Kendallville; 15 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; a sister, Mable Mundy of Andrews; and two brothers, Tim Bolinger of North Manchester and Steve Bolinger of Huntington.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. The burial will be in South Whitley Cemetery. The visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are to Whitley County 4-H Endowment Fund c/o Whitley County Community Foundation.
