| | | Kathleen M. Johnson, 79, of rural Merriam, died Friday, June 8, 2012 at her home of natural causes.
She was born November 30, 1932 in Peoria, Illinois a daughter of Ronald Ellsworth and Bess Frances (Stangland) Raber. Her formative years were spent in Peoria. She graduated from Peoria High School, received her nursing degree from Methodist Hospital in Peoria and Bachelor of Nursing from Linfield College in McMinnville, Oregon.
In 1955 she moved to San Francisco, then Spokane WA and later Tacoma WA, then Sacremento CA. From 1963 until 1981 she lived in Corvallis OR before living in Saudi Arabia for four years. She then returned to Corvallis OR. On October 5, 1991 she was united in marriage to James Raymond Johnson. They always made their home together in the Merriam area. Mr. Johnson died September 8, 2006.
A Registered Nurse for 37 years, she was also a certified Lamaze instructor.
Surviving relatives include two sons, Stephen (Lyn Michele) Martinenko of Corvallis OR and David (Wendy) Martinenko of Cameron Park CA; five grandchildren; two great grandsons; a brother, David Raber Kent of Glendale AZ; and a sister, Nancy McDonald of Nashville TN.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Patricia Sweeney.
The funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City with visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
The graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 22nd at Milo-Gard Pioneer Cemetery, Madras OR.
Preferred memorials are to Black Pine Animal Park.
