| | | Janetta Crabill, 93, of Okeechobee, Florida, died Monday, June 11, 2012.
She was born August 3, 1918 in Allen County, Indiana a daughter of Ira Edward and Iva Mae (Leland) Bowsman. Her formative years were spent in Whitley County. She completed her education at Columbia City High School.
On January 8, 1953 she was united in marriage to Oscar L. Crabill. They made their home in Columbia City until moving to Florida in 1954. From 1980 until 1995 they spent their summers in Columbia City. Mr. Crabill died August 22, 1986.
She assisted her husband with the operations of the furniture store until 1954 when she served as secretary/assistant of the building contractor/developer business with her husband until 1966. She made draperies for many.
Her memberships include Okeechobee First Baptist Church, Columbia City Order of the Eastern Star #65, Mizpah Shrine Widows Club in Fort Wayne, former president of Pie Theta Chapter of Eta Sigma Phi for eight years and recording secretary for 26 years.
Surviving relatives include a daughter, Vietta McClain of Okeechobee FL; a step daughter, Jacqueline Carter of Harding GA and West Palm Beach FL; and a step granddaughter, Kathy Jo Carter of Boyton Beach FL.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death four brothers, Earl Bowsman, Howard Bowsman, Francis Bowsman and Ernest Bowsman; and six sisters, Gladys Ruby, Cleo Gaar, Florence Bercot, Faye Irene Burcham, Evelyn Wertz and Helen Bowsman.
A graveside service will be held at 12 Noon Tuesday, June 19th at Greenhill Cemetery, Columbia City with Rev. Timothy Kumfer officiating.
A funeral service and visitation will be held Friday, June 15th at the Buxton Seawinds Funeral Home, 3833 SE 18th, Okeechobee Florida.
Arrangements are being completed by Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City.
