Thomas A. Pietz, 64, of Boone passed away at the Boone County Hospital on Tuesday morning, July 7, 2009 of heart failure.

He was born on October 3, 1944 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, the son of Alfred and Esther (Bodemer) Pietz. Tom graduated from high school in Oshkosh and attended Valparaiso University. Later, he served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Korea during the Viet Nam War.

In December of 1968, he married Sally A. Hasse. They were married for 23 years and had two daughters. On May 5, 1995, he married Victoria J. Andrews.

Tom and his family moved to Boone in 1971, where he was co-owner of Oshkosh Tanning Company until 1995.

He was a member of The Augustana Lutheran Church and a lifetime member of the VFW, Post #817 of Boone. Tom served on the Boone Parks Foundation, Augustana Lutheran Church Foundation and held various positions with the VFW. He had a passion for model railroading and crafting wooden toys and dollhouses, which he donated to many charitable organizations. His wooden trains are treasured by his family. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, boating, golfing, fishing trips, and the family pets

His parents and sister, Judy, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife of 14 years, Vicki of Boone; his daughters Angie Tucker and husband Scott of Sebastian, Florida and Heidi Heintz and husband James of Ames, Iowa; his grandchildren Ari and McKenna Tucker; and Noah, Holly, Paige and Landrey Heintz; and Vicki’s son Barry Niese and wife Darla and their children Madeline, Simon, Avanelle and Ezra all of Portland, Oregon.

Services will be held on Saturday morning, July 11th at 10:00 a.m. at the Augustana Lutheran Church in Boone with Pastor Dick Dahle officiating.

Interment will be in the Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone with full military honors conducted by the Boone Veterans Council.

Friends may call at the Stark-Welin Chapel in Boone on Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with the family present until 7:30 p.m. to greet friends. Visitations will continue at the Church on Saturday morning from 8:30 a.m. until the time of service.

Those wishing to express their sympathies through a memorial may direct their gift to the Foundation for the Boone Area Humane Society, Augustana Lutheran Church or the Festival of Hope Foundation.
