Velva Wanlund, 94, of Stratford, Iowa passed away at the Trinity Regional Hospital in Ft. Dodge, Iowa on Friday evening, October 9, 2009.

She was born on July 10, 1915 in rural Stratford, Iowa the daughter of Andrew and Carrie (Norman) Johnson.

On September 2, 1945, she married Roy W. Wanlund at the South Marion United Methodist Church in Stratford. The couple lived in Hazel Crest, Illinois until 1980, when the family moved to Stratford.

Velva was a homemaker. She enjoyed baking cookies, making candy, gardening and in earlier years, when living in Illinois, was a childcare provider.

She was a member of the South Marion United Methodist Church and the Women Society of Christian Service.

Her parents; husband Roy in December of 1986; 1 son LeRoy in June of 1958; 2 brothers Glenn and Lester Johnson; and 1 sister Wyona Magnuson preceded her in death.

Survivors include 2 sons John Wanlund of Stratford and Dale Wanlund of Webster City; 1 daughter LaVonne Barreda and husband Jesse of Lombard, Illinois; 3 grandchildren Kimberly of California, Kristi and Kevin both of Illinois; a sister-in-law Irene Johnson of Stratford; and a foster son Mike Kahle of Sparks, Nevada.

Services will be held on Thursday morning, October 15th at 10:00 a.m. at the South Marion United Methodist Church south of Stratford with Rev. Dot Hasler officiating.

Interment will be in the South Marion Cemetery south of Stratford, Iowa.

Visitations will be held on Thursday morning at the Church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
