| | | Roberta “Bobbie” Blanshan, 67, of 203 Cedar Street in Boone, passed away at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines on Sunday evening, January 8, 2012.
She was born on February 12, 1944 in Chicago, Illinois the daughter of Kenneth and Ethel (Larson) Thorsten.
On April 12, 1969, she married Jack H. Blanshan at Park Ridge, Illinois.
Bobbie graduated from Maine Township High School – East in Park Ridge, Illinois in 1962 and Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa in June of 1966 with a Bachelors of Arts degree. She was a high school teacher in Chicago for several years, and was a substitute teacher for Boone High School for many years until her retirement.
She was a member of the Augustana Lutheran Church where she participated in the Thursday Fellowship gatherings and assisted the funeral serving groups. Bobbie loved being a part of ladies and couples league golf, playing in her many bridge clubs, and spending time with her friends and family. Bobbie adored and enjoyed spoiling her 4 grandsons and took pleasure in the company of her dog, Katie. Her number one passion was the love of playing golf. You could catch her every day out at the golf course with a smile and club in her hand. She will be greatly missed by all.
Her parents, Kenneth and Ethel, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband Jack of Boone; 2 daughters Amy Blanshan of Boone and Susan McCarthy and husband Bill of Minneapolis, Minnesota; 4 grandsons Zach Bjorklund of Bondurant, Iowa, Andrew Dennis, Matthew McCarthy and Thomas McCarthy all of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and a brother Kenneth A. Thorsten of Schaumburg, Illinois.
Services will be held on Saturday morning, January 14th at 10:30 a.m. at the Augustana Lutheran Church in Boone with Pastor Daniel Solomon officiating.
Following the service, her body will be cremated.
Friends may call at the Stark-Welin Chapel in Boone on Friday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with the family present during that time to greet friends. Visitations will continue at the Church on Saturday morning from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
Those wishing to express their sympathies through a memorial may direct their gift to the family.
