| | | Mr. William 'Gene' Coons, age 60, of Forrest City, died Sunday at the V.A. Medical Center in Memphis. He had been in the hospital for the past five days.
Mr. Coons was born December 15, 1947, in Tyronza, Arkansas, and was the son of William 'Bill' Coons and Verna Lee Taylor Coons. He was a Veteran of the Army where he had served in the Vietnam War and received the Purple Heart, was a member of the V.F.W., and was a Baptist.
Mr. Coons is survived by two daughters; Jeanne Burns of Southaven, Mississippi, and Suzi Sheppard of Hernando, Mississippi, four sisters; Barbara Lee Westbrook of Palestine, Sherry Marcum of Colt, Mary Pretty of Wynne, and Judy Ennis of Forrest City, and four grandchildren; Taylor, Jordan, Jeffery, and Justin.
Services for Mr. Coons will be held at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, with burial to follow at 2:00 P.M. At the West Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery in Memphis, Tennessee.
