| | | Dr. Wayne Henderson Jones, age 78, of Forrest City, Arkansas went to be with His Lord on Thursday night, November 5, 2009.
Dr. Jones was born in Tupelo, Arkansas, on January 29, 1931. He was the son of Bessie Burke Jones & Howard Jones.
Upon graduation from Forrest City High School in 1948, he joined the United States Air Force, serving 20 years. He married Alyene Todd Jones of Forrest City on May 16, 1954. After retiring from the Air Force, Dr. Jones & his family returned to their hometown of Forrest City where he was a guidance counselor at Lincoln High School & Forrest City High School; then Director of Counseling, Vice President of Student Affairs & later interim president at East Arkansas community College.
He was a long time deacon, Sunday School teacher and volunteer staff counselor at First Baptist Church, Forrest City. He was a member and former president of Kiwanis Club and an avid gardener. He served 15 years of the Forrest City Public School Board and just retired as the president. He also served many years on the Executive Board of the Arkansas Baptist State Convention.
The joys of his life were helping other people and pouring his life into his family.
Dr. Jones is survived by his bride of 55 and a half years, 2 daughters; Linda Powell & husband, Reverend Brent of Powhatan, Arkansas and Valerie Enchelmayer & and husband, Dr. Ernest of Russellville, Arkansas. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren; Craig, Justin and Janai Powell and Jaedon and Karis Enchelmayer; and one brother Donald H. Jones & wife Dottie of Hot Springs, Arkansas and a host of dear nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday, November 9, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Forrest City, Dr. Gene Crawley, officiating. Burial will follow at Forrest Park Cemetery in Forrest City. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 at Stevens Funeral Home Sunday, November 8, 2009. Visit online registry at stevensfuneralhome.net.
