| | | RAMOS, Salvador, age 70, of Beavercreek, died Thursday, March 26, 2009 at his home. Sal was born and raised in El Paso, TX. He received his Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering from Texas Western College. He went on to obtain his Masters in Business Administration from Auburn University while attending Air Command & Staff College at Maxwell AFB in Alabama. Sal retired as a Lt. Colonel in the United States Air Force. He served as the Air Force Academy Liaison Officer to Greene County high schools counseling students accepted to the Academy. He retired from civil service as an electronics engineer at WPAFB with NAIC. He served as the first Hispanic Employment Manager (HEP) for WPAFB later receiving the Air Force HEP Manager of the Year Award. He established a program to recruit young Hispanic Engineers for WPAFB. Sal was a community activist who helped various Hispanic programs at the local and national level. He was named a Distinguished Hispanic Ohioan. He served as President of the Wright Memorial Chapter of the Air Force Association (AFA) and was a national board member of the AFA and is an Eaker Fellow. He also served on the Board of the Greene Valley Recreation Club and was a member of the Beavercreek Jaycees. He was preceded in death by his parent’s Jose Ramos and Augustine Yrungaray. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Altagracia “Grace” Ramos; daughters, Sabrina & husband Robert Brannon of Beavercreek, OH; Melanie and husband Charles Combs of Atlanta, GA; Danielle and husband Tracy “Ken” Smith of Beavercreek, OH; Adrienne and husband Jerome Moyer of Gahanna, OH; grandchildren, Jessica, Paul, Emilio, Reagan, Ophelia, Grace, and Jordan; close family friend, Josi Cotto Garcia; and 6 brothers & sisters who all reside in El Paso, TX. Sal’s battle with cancer ended peacefully in his sleep at the home he loved and lived for 34 years. He will be deeply missed by the family he devoted himself to and the many friends he leaves behind. Family will receive friends on Sunday night, March 29, 2009 from 4:00 – 6:00 pm at Beavercreek Baptist Church, 3511 Dayton-Xenia Rd., Beavercreek. A public service will be held immediately after. The family requests in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the “Sal Ramos Education Scholarship Fund” in care of Beavercreek Baptist Church at 3511 Dayton-Xenia Rd., Beavercreek, OH 45432.
