Charles Edward Cartwright, Sr., 82, 146 Carolina Road, South Mills, NC died Sunday, October 25, 2009 at Albemarle Hospital. Mr. Cartwright, a native of Camden County, was the son of the late Mamie Kelly Knapp and the husband of Lois Taylor Cartwright of the residence. He was the owner of Cartwright Service Center, a member of McBride United Methodist Church, former Board Member of First Citizens Bank, past member South Mills Ruritan Club and South Mills Volunteer Fire Department.
Besides his wife he is survived by a daughter, Debbie Cartwright Walston of South Mills, NC; a son, Eddie Cartwright and wife Jan of South Mills, NC; a sister, Nora Laakenson of Onancock, VA; a brother, Kenneth Cartwright of South Mills, NC four grandchildren, Mary Anne Purcell and husband Cliff of Greenville, NC, Melissa Sawyer and husband Mike of Camden, NC, Kristin Cartwright Brown and husband Ward of Greenville, NC, and Katlin Cartwright of South Mills, NC; and four great grandchildren, Ryan Purcell and Jessica Purcell of Greenville, NC, and Colby Sawyer and Logan Sawyer of Camden, NC. He was pre-deceased by a daughter, Christine Cartwright; and three brothers, Haywood Knapp, Howard Cartwright and Dale Knapp.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Twiford’s Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Wade Bennett officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery.
