|Gearold Everett Knowles, 88, passed away at 3:27 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2010, at his home in Indianapolis.
He was born in Greene County on Jan. 15, 1922, the son of Everett and Mary (Hill) Knowles.
Mr. Knowles had been a life-long resident of Greene County until moving to Indianapolis in 2002. He had been a member of First Baptist Church in Linton.
He was a retired coal miner and member of the United Mine Workers of America. Mr. Knowles had worked for many years as a dragline groundman at AMAX Coal Company Minnehaha Mine.
Mr. Knowles is survived by his wife of 65 years, Doris (Weaver) Knowles; two sons, Gearold (Susan) L. Knowles of Potomac, MD and Dan Knowles of Indianapolis; five grandchildren, Catherine Knowles of Washington, DC, John Gearold Knowles of Asheville, NC, Philip Everett Knowles of Gaithersburg, MD, Danielle (Josh) Knowles Goodman of Linton, and Dyan (Rich) Knowles Wilkes of Lyons; and two great-grandchildren Cameron Goodman and Dylan Wilkes; and his sister, Ruby Grindstaff of Linton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Audrey, Hazel, and Dorothy; and his five brothers, Lewis, Doiel, Leo, Gilbert, and Claude.
Funeral service will be at the First Baptist Church in Linton at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 13. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Linton. Visitation will be at the church on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
The family has suggested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Lung Association.
