Samuel E. Lucas, age 82, of Linton, passed away at 2:25 A.M. Thurs., Aug. 18, 2011, at Greene County General Hospital in Linton. He was born July 30, 1929, in Elliston, the son of Clarence “Dink” & Lena (Tanner) Lucas.

Sam worked as a postal carrier for the United States Postal Service, retiring after thirty years of service. He formerly drove a school bus for the Linton-Stockton School Corp. & was a former member of the Aircraft Pilot Association. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War & was a member of Switz City Masonic Lodge #676, Linton American Legion Post #22, where he was past commander, the Greene County Shrine Club, & the Zorah Shrine Club & Scottish Rite, both of Terre Haute.

Survivors include a brother, Kenny Lucas of Bloomfield & a sister, Frances Walker of New Port Richey, Florida,several nieces & nephews, & his very special friend, Millie Thomas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, William R. Lucas & Robert Lucas, & two sisters, Marjorie Bledsoe & Helen Marie Lucas.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 A.M. Mon., Aug. 22, at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton, Reverend Arlen Pope officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery. The Linton American Legion will conduct military graveside rites.

Visitation will be at 9 A.M. Mon. until the hour of the service. The Switz City Masonic Lodge will have memorial services at 10:45 A.M. at the funeral home.

The family has suggested that memorial contributions be made to the Greene County Shrine Club through the funeral home.
