Victor E. Newton, age 72, of Linton, passed away on Friday, Oct. 2, 2009, in Linton. He was born May 17, 1937, the son of Ernest & Veda (Martin) Newton.

He retired from Peabody Coal Company after thirty-one years of service. He was a member of the Olive Branch Baptist Church in Linton & of the United Mine Workers Association. He was a professional auction attendee.

Survivors include his wife, Violet Kay (Bovenschen) Newton, to whom he was married fifty-one years, a son, Jim (Tammy) Newton of Princeton, six grandchildren, Jeremy (Gina) Newton, Nikki (Casey) Prunty, Josh (Amanda) Newton, Jessica (Eric) Daugherty, Logan Doyle, & Jacob Doyle, & four great-grandchildren, Regan & Kaden Prunty & Dylan & Devan Simon.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Velva Jean Johnson, & a brother, Vernice Lee “Bud”Newton. He & his daughter, Debra (Daugherty) Doyle, passed away together.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 A.M. Sat., Oct. 10, at Olive Branch Baptist Church in Linton, Pastors Myron Young & Dan Kemp officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4-9 P.M. Fri. at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton & at 10 A.M. Sat. at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Logan & Jacob Doyle Trust Fund through the funeral home.
