Carol Heflin, 65, Detroit Lakes, MN, passed away Monday, October 19, 2009, after a courageous battle against breast cancer.
Carol Ann Waa was born May 21, 1944, in Fargo, ND, to G. Edwin and Miriam (Olson) Waa. She grew up in Harwood, ND, and graduated from West Fargo High School in 1962. On November 28, 1964, Carol married Roger Heflin at Maple Sheyenne Lutheran Church. They lived in Harwood, ND, from 1964 to 2004. In 1965, their only child, Jodi, was born. Carol worked at Dayton’s department store in West Acres and at the Harwood convenience store.
In 2004, Carol fulfilled a life-long dream of moving to Detroit Lakes. She thoroughly enjoyed life in Detroit Lakes with her family and new friends from water aerobics class. Carol was a beloved wife, mother, grandma, sister, aunt, and friend. She was an awesome cook, flower gardener, and so much more. Carol loved to read and travel, and was such a positive presence at her grandsons sporting activities. She will be deeply missed.
Carol is survived by her husband, Roger “Huck”; daughter, Jodi (David) Kary and grandsons, Drew and Beau, all Bismarck, ND; sisters, Betty Gorden, West Fargo; Jean (David) Lux, Moorhead, MN; and several special nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Gerald Waa.
Visitation: Thursday, October 22 from 5-7 pm with a Prayer Service at 7 pm at West Funeral Home, West Fargo.
Funeral Service: Friday, October 23 at 1:00 p.m. at Maple Sheyenne Lutheran Church, Harwood, ND.
Burial: Lower Maple Cemetery, Harwood, ND
