Dale Fortner 85 of Spencer passed away at Select Specialty Hospital in Bloomington November 11, 2006. He was born August 25, 1921 in Burns City to Verdia and Donna Faye (Inman) Fortner. Dale was a 1939 graduate of Needmore High School. He retired in 1984 from the Indiana University electrical shop where he was a clerk. Previously he had been product manager at Spencer IGA and Babb’s Red and White. Dale was an Army veteran of WWII. He belonged to the Spencer Church of Christ, formerly attended the North Central Church of Christ in Bloomington, the Owen County Art Guild, Spencer Lions, Linton Chapter of Barber Shoppers, and the Owen County Conservation Club.
Dale is survived by his wife of 60 Years, Ruth (Wheeler) Fortner, one daughter Linda Fortner of Bloomington, two sons John Fortner of Scarcy Arkansas and Kevin Fortner of Farmington, Michigan, two grandsons Michael and Joshua Fortner, and one sister Eva Nell Hasler of Bloomfield. He was preceded by a brother Camby Fortner.
Services will be 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, November 15, 2006 at the Spencer Church of Christ on East Morgan St. with Bros. Steve Sikes and Gary Fiscus officiating. Burial will follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens in Bloomington where military graveside services will be conducted by the Spencer American Legion and VFW. Visitation will be Tuesday, 4-8PM. at the West & Parrish & Pedigo Funeral Home in Spencer and one hour prior at the church on Wednesday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Military Honor Guard, Spencer Church of Christ, or the Spencer YMCA in care of the Funeral home.
