James Lee Rike, 9, of Spencer, passed away Thursday, March 26, 2009 at his home due to an accident. He was born October 18, 1999 in Bloomington to Robert “Bud” Rike and Monica (Rogers) Rike. He was a third grade student at Spencer Elementary School in Mrs. Nicholson’s class and attended the Latch Key program after school. James attended the Cuba Baptist Church. He was a very trusting person. He loved gymnastics at Kathleen’s, and enjoyed his golf cart and taking people for rides on the property. James helped out at Fender 4 Star Meat Processing, unloading animals and talking with the farmers. He was learning woodworking from his two adopted uncles Steve and Lou Fender.
James is survived by his parents, Monica Rike and Scott Knockel, Bud Rike and Andrea Hendrix all of Spencer, a sister Amy Dawn Hasselburg, two brothers; Robbie James Rike and Bobbie Rike all of Spencer, a stepbrother Chad O’Neal Beck of Brownsburg, grandparents; Jim and Barb Rike of Martinsville and Estella Rogers of Spencer, niece and nephew Lily and Elijah Hasselburg of Spencer, and extended family in Indianapolis.
Funeral services will be held 2 pm, Monday, March 30, 2009, at West & Parrish & Pedigo Funeral Home in Spencer. Pastors Alan Farmer and Eric Lashbrook will officiate. Burial will follow at Centerton Cemetery. Friends may call noon until time of service on Monday.
There will be a gathering after the graveside services at Fender's shelter house for friends and family.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Lack Key program in care of the funeral home.
