Gordon Jarvis, 67, of Spencer, passed away Sunday, May 24, 2009 at the Owen Valley Health Campus. He was born April 28, 1942 in Mitchell, Indiana to James Madison and Mildred Angeline (Horne) Jarvis. Gordon was a 1960 graduate of Mitchell High School. He was a Marine Veteran serving as an instructor at Quantico. Gordon was a former member of the Noblesville Masonic Lodge, and a member of the Club 55 bowling league in Bedford, and leagues at Suburban and Classic in Bloomington. His hobbies were woodworking and horses. He had been a farrier and competitive barrel racer.
Gordon retired in 2004 from the IU Athletic Department where he had been a groundskeeper.
Mr. Jarvis is survived by three daughters; Beth Ann Hamble of Kansas City, MO, Kimberly (Greg) Moore of San Antonio, TX and Meagan Berkebile-Guy of Spencer; one son Thad (Sandy) Berkebile of Ellettsville, two brothers; Jim Jarvis of Spencer and Charles “Huck” (Sonia) Jarvis of San Pedro, CA; one sister Diana Hobbs of Mitchell, 14 grandchildren; Syerra, Cheyenne, Justice, Xavier, Millennia, Gavin, Maddie, Abby, Ashley, Emily, Hayden, Trent, Cora, and Tyler, and two great-grandchildren; Allysun, and RJ Gordon and 20 nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Sally Jarvis in 2006, and two sisters, Mary Jo Dausch and Patricia Cazee.
Funeral services will be 10:30 am, Friday, May 29, 2009 at West & Parrish & Pedigo Funeral Home in Spencer. Pastor Larry Mitchell will officiate. Visitation will be 4-8 pm, Thursday. Military graveside rites and inurnment will be announced at a later date.
Memorials may be given to the charity of ones choice.
