As an added service, we place all of our obituaries on our website. This allows family and friends that are not in the area to view their loved one's obituary.
Each obituary also offers you the opportunity to leave an on-line memorial. So if you are unable to physically attend the visitation or funeral service, you can still express your personal condolences.
To send a condolence, click on the name of the deceased then click on View/Send Condolence on the right side of that page. Leave your personal message to the family in the box at the bottom of that page.
Please note that as a security feature, each memorial will first be viewed by the funeral home staff before appearing on the website.

Wilma U (Biddle) Byerly went home to be with the Lord on June 8, 2009. She was at the home of her daughter in Greenwood, IN. Her health began to decline in December 2007, although she continued to have a tremendous will to live and a never give up spirit. She was born on September 30, 1911, in Owen County, IN to the late James F. and Mary Elizabeth (Fulk) Biddle. She married Henry C. Byerly in 1940 and he preceded her in death on May 20, 1983. She was also preceded in death by son-in-law, Maurice R. Wildman, granddaughter, Teresa L. (Wildman) Cradick, great-grandchildren, Matthew Cradick and Timothy Cooper, sister, Mae L. Litten, three brothers Paul (Gus) Vernon, Lyle L. and Loris (Sid) Joy Biddle.
She is survived by her children, Frances J. Wildman, Glenn R. (Carol) Byerly, Gary W. (Margie) Byerly, and Cheryl B. (Steven) Abner. She had 11 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren,27 great-grandchildren, 6 step great-grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren, 5 step-great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Wilma and Henry were the third generation to live on the Byerly farm just south of Patricksburg. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, and homemaker. She cared for Henry’s mother and her father for many years prior to their deaths. This was often difficult with children of their own under foot. Wilma loved living on the farm and took the hard work that went with it in stride. She loved spring time with the budding of the trees, new green grass, and bright spring flowers. From planting time in the spring until harvesting in the fall, cooking for thrashers, butchering, and canning there was never a spare moment. The winters were long and often hard especially with coal burning stoves and without plumbing until early in the 1970’s. Making it through the depression was a hardship and she learned as others did to make the most of the little you had.
She moved to Spencer in 1986 and adapted to “city” living. Children grown and gone for many years her hobby had become flowers especially African violets. She was proud of her small garden in Spencer, although to her it was nothing compared to the garden on the farm. Her yard was well manicured and ablaze with flowering colors.
Wilma loved children and she always found time to spend special moments with her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren down through each generation. Although she did not like her picture taken she did proudly pose for many fifth generation “Kodak” moments upon the arrival of little ones.
She was a Christian and also the third generation of Byerly’s to attend St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Steubenville until it was torn down in 1970. The congregation then merged with St. John’s Lutheran Church in Patricksburg where she was a member until it closed in 1990. She then regularly attended the First Baptist Church in Spencer. She was a long time member of the Worthwhile Homemaker Club, Steubenville Ladies Aide, and the Patricksburg Senior Citizens. She was an avid Patricksburg High School basketball fan when her children were in school and afterwards an IU basketball/Bobby Knight Fan.
Visitation will be 4-8 pm, Wednesday, June 11, 2009 and one hour prior to services at West & Parrish & Pedigo Funeral Home in Spencer, IN. Funeral services will be 11 am, Thursday.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, The First Baptist Church in Spencer, or St. Francis Hospice in Indianapolis.
