Cemeteries of Owen County | Condolences | Florists | Helpful Websites | Newspapers |

As an added service, we place all of our obituaries on our website. This allows family and friends that are not in the area to view their loved one's obituary.

Each obituary also offers you the opportunity to leave an on-line memorial. So if you are unable to physically attend the visitation or funeral service, you can still express your personal condolences.

To send a condolence, click on the name of the deceased then click on View/Send Condolence on the right side of that page. Leave your personal message to the family in the box at the bottom of that page.

Please note that as a security feature, each memorial will first be viewed by the funeral home staff before appearing on the website.

============================================
Glendora White, a lifelong resident of Owen County, died peacefully on Monday, August 24, at 96 years of age, in Spencer, Indiana.

Born Glendora Gibson on February 25, 1913, on her family's farm near Spencer, where she lived for much of her life, Glendora was the great-great granddaughter of Anderson B. and Jane Mills. The Mills family homesteaded in a log cabin in Owen County in 1838 on the property where Glendora was born, and the family was extremely influential in the early settling of the greater Owen County area.

Glendora was married to Homer White on August 21, 1932, in Freedom, Indiana. Her husband preceded her in death in 1986. Glendora was also preceded in death by her father, Denver, and her mother, Jessie (Mills) Gibson, as well as her sister, Lois McCarter Liston. She is survived by her daughter, Luella Holcomb, of Spencer, and her son, Denny White, of Vero Beach, Florida.

Glendora was an active and also the longest living member of the First Christian Church of Spencer. Well known for her cooking and canning recipes, Glendora was also active for many years in the Modern Homemakers Club, which was established to promote the best interests of the family, home and community. She was also an avid gardener and bird watcher.

Glendora was also a very active member of the Owen County Historical and Genealogical Society, and she was a tremendous source of information on local history. Her personal records included extensive notes and historical journals and photographs, as well as numerous antiques which she personally cataloged. Vivian Zollinger, editor of the Historical Society's monthly publication, noted that she frequently called Glendora to research and verify historical information relevant to Owen County, including family histories, reunions, births and even grave markers.

"Glendora was the very essence of what Owen County is -- a genuine and thoughtful person who was interested in people and in history," Zollinger said. "In addition to her personal loss, her passing makes me feel as though an important library full of history books has burned. We will miss her wisdom and her presence."

Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 28, at 1:00 PM at West & Parrish & Pedigo Funeral Home in Spencer, and the eulogy will be read by Glendora's son, Denny. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Spencer. Friends may call on Friday, from 10:00 AM until service time at West & Parrish & Pedigo Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the church or Owen County Community Foundation in care of the funeral home.
