Homer Lewis Helms, 79, of Spencer, passed away at the Residence at McCormick’s Creek, Monday, October 12, 2009. He was born February 26, 1930 in Bloomfield, IN to Harvey Sr. and Mildred (Heaton) Helms. Homer served in the United States National Guard for 6 years, worked in Customer Service for TWA for 32 years, and worked for Home Laundry in Bloomington for 8 years. He was a member of McCormick’s Creek Pentecostal Church.
Homer is survived by his wife of 26 years, Marilyn (Fields) Helms, two daughters Rita (Tim) Pruitt of Indianapolis, Vicki (David) Imes of Danville, IL, two step daughters Roberta (Scott) Bruce of Ellettsville, Rebecca (Bill McCLoud) Brown of Bloomington, two step sons Robert (Micki) Brown and Roger (Donna) Brown both of Bloomington, two brothers Harvey Helms Jr. and Ronald Helms, five sisters Vada Clayton, Olive Vendeventer, Lorene Lindsey, Nancy Craig, Nellie Yoho, three grandchildren, ten step grandchildren, and Twelve step great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother Oscar Helms, and three sisters Evelyn Hamlin, Dorothy James, and Margaret Leigh.
Funeral services will be 11am, Friday, October 16, 2009 at McCormick’s Creek Pentecostal Church. Pastor Robertson will officiate. Burial will follow at Chambersville Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 pm, Thursday at West & Parrish & Pedigo Funeral Home, and Friday from 9-11am at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to McCormick’s Creek Pentecostal Church.
